Optimized Contract-based Model for Resource Allocation in Federated Geo-distributed Clouds
In the era of Big Data, with data growing massively in scale and velocity, cloud computing and its pay-as-you-go model continues to provide significant cost benefits and a seamless service delivery model for cloud consumers. The evolution of small-scale and large-scale geo-distributed datacenters operated and managed by individual Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) raises new challenges in terms of...
متن کاملResource Allocation in Federated Distributed Computing Infrastructures
We consider the problem of allocating combinations of heterogeneous, distributed resources among selfinterested parties. In particular, we consider this problem in the context of distributed computing infrastructures, where resources are shared among users from different administrative domains. Examples of such infrastructures include PlanetLab [15] and computational grids [7]. End-users derive...
متن کاملContract-Based Load Management in Federated Distributed Systems
This paper focuses on load management in looselycoupled federated distributed systems. We present a distributed mechanism for moving load between autonomous participants using bilateral contracts that are negotiated offline and that set bounded prices for moving load. We show that our mechanism has good incentive properties, efficiently redistributes excess load, and has a low overhead in pract...
متن کاملProviding Geo-Elasticity in Geographically Distributed Clouds
Geographically distributed cloud platforms are well suited for serving a geographically diverse user base. However traditional cloud provisioning mechanisms that make local scaling decisions are not adequate for delivering best possible performance for modern web applications that observe both temporal and spatial workload fluctuations. In this paper, we propose GeoScale, a system that provides...
متن کاملRisk Aware Resource Allocation for Clouds∗
Cloud computing offers on-demand access to large-scale computing resources in a pay-as-you go manner. Market-based resource allocation mechanisms are gaining popularity among commercial cloud providers to deal with dynamically fluctuating resource demands. For example, the recently introduced Amazon EC2 spot instances allow users to bid for computing resources and thus control the cost vs. reli...
